Carol Loftus vocals Carol has now been singing for more years than she cares to admit,but she started singing with bands back in 1963.At that time she was seriously into c/w musicand one of the first songs she sang on stage was Fall to pieces by Patsy Cline.she then joined a band two years later called the Cheques and worked the clubs in Cheshire and N.Wales,In 1966 she was asked to audition with a band from Liverpool called the 5 Aces they were looking for a female lead singer to join them on a tour of Germany the audition and the tour was very succesful and they were offered a recording contract with C.B.S they recorded Tears on my pillow in the spring of 66 and the record was released on the 6th June of that year.The band at this time were asked to change the name because of a similar named band in the USA they chose Carol and the memories.Carol stayed with them for about a year then left to form her own band called The Renos this band took her back to her first love "country music" In 1968 Carol was invited to join a band on the wirral by the name of The Image,here she met the bass player who twelve months later she would marry, Geoff and Carol have been together now 37years and have formed several bands over the years including the New Renos,Carousel, Cats eyes,Savannah,Millers Bridge and now finally back full circle. Geoff Loftus bass gtr Geoff has been playing bass guitar since a motorcycle accident when he was 17 forced him to give up his dream of being a lead guitarist ,he has played with many bands over the years starting off with The Image in 1964, the band were in 1965 invited to play a three month tour of Japan and managed to aquire quite a good following while over there,Geoff met and married Carol in october 69 they have one daughter "Donna", In 1979 Geoff and his family went to live in Holland he joined a band over there called The Rysdykes he played with them for a couple of years before returning to the uk 86 after that he and Carol formed several bands untill finally today The Memories. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frank van Russelt lead gtr Born Manchester 1953 Took up guitar at age of nine years. Self taught with very little formal training. First band. Circi Centrifuge (own material. Blues and Rock) Formed Kraken in 1969. Frank Van Russelt (lead) Rick Hinkes (vocal) Chas Hulme (bass) Jeff Skinner (drums).Later had three piece brass section and John Mayalls brother as roadie! Often booked, rarely paid, but never paid off! Largely own material. Worked Manchester circuit until 1975. Set up Holy City Studios in Darwen. 1976-80. Small 8 track facility. Formed Frank and Dave a premier East Lancashire punk folk group with David Rogan 1977-80. Lots of plagiarism and spitting. Hibernated 1980 to 2006. Met Carol and Geoff and became a born again Memory. Gary McInnes lead gtr Gary Met Carol and Geoff at The Charity jam night run by Merseycats, and joined the Memories.Started to learn guitar after seeing The Rolling Stons at Knebworth 1975 Gave up when i couldn't play the F chord,Gave up when i couldn't play the F chord after Eventual success, never looked back, been hoplessly obsessed eversince Played all kinds of music in many bands, rock n roll, country, Irish, blues, pop and once in a comedy band. Now through Merseycats have come full circle to once again enjoy the music of the 60's. Just love those Beatles. Apart from all the usual clubs and pubs have played the Matthew St festival twice, once at the Morecombe International Country Music Festival, and been at the Colne Blues Festival. Can play guitars, drums, a little keyboard and have done a few gigs on bass. Some vocals too. Simply i love music and playing live, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arty Davies drums Arty has been in and out of the business since 1964, starting with his first band The Pressure Points, then had a stint with Korner Kafe, he then quit to take up Wheelchair Basketball where upon became a Great Britain International. He came back a few times to the drums, playing with The Four Just Men, Liverpool Echoes, Roadrunner, Farons Flamingo’s Lee Curtis and the All Stars, he quit again in the middle 90s through ill health and he had to go into a wheelchair full time and thought he wouldn't be able to play anymore and sold all his gear. 4 years later He was at The Cavern with Merseycats just watching and got the bite to want to play again wheelchair or not, so he borrowed a kit of drums, and found the old magic was still there. he joined The Tempos after an unsuccesful attempt with starting a band called the Federals with Alan Taylor formally with The Casuals. Then one day he was at Merseycats and Faron turned around and said he was reforming Farons Flamingos and he wanted Arty as his drummer, Arty is still a member of Farons Flamingos as well as being drummer for a Blues band called Wheels on Fire and this band, he has played with as a stand in since coming back with Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes, The Undertakers, Juke Box Eddies, The Del Renas, The Phoenix Rock n Roll Band, The Mojos 69ers Nashville The Bluesers being just a few named....and is still playing wheelchair basketball at 58 with The Vikings from Liverpool. don't let the Wheelchair fool You.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
